It's the most wonderful time of the year...

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

And no, I don't mean Christmas time (although walking into Kohl's the other day almost convinced me otherwise--Christmas music playing, trees and garland everywhere...then I remembered it was 80 degrees outside and not even Thanksgiving yet). I'm talking about lemon season! That's right, my Meyer lemon tree is brimming with almost ripe fruit. I picked the first 3 this week, but in another week or so I will be up to my eyeballs in lemons because the rest seem to all be on the same ripening timetable...

This year is my biggest crop so far. I think the first year we lived here, I got about 15 lemons. The next year, thanks to Ike and some thieving roofers, I got 2. Last year I was up to around 30. This year I'm looking at a good 50 lemons currently out there. C-R-A-Z-Y!

So, here's what I have planned:

This website could probably keep me cooking until summer, if I could make the lemons last that long! Local folks, be prepared to eat some of this with me. Or, if you'd like some lemons to bake something yourself, I'd be happy to share (in exchange for a bite of whatever you make, of course!)

  1. Just tonight I noticed at the grocery store that a single pitiful looking lemon would cost 99 cents! You are sitting on a gold mine! Be sure and freeze some of the juice so I can have a taste when I come to visit.
