5 before 30...

Monday, July 12, 2010
Since I turned 29, I have been meaning to put together one of those "30 before 30" lists that seem to be the thing to do before turning 30. But, I kept putting it off, because making the list would be like admitting I was going to be turning 30, which I obviously was not ready to do. I had no idea that I would have such a hard time dealing with leaving my 20s! (Ha! That's funny, because I've actually been dreading it for years....). I don't have any real reason for not wanting to turn 30. It isn't like my hair is going to turn gray and my forehead crinkle up as soon as it happens (right? right!?). Anyway, the point being that I have procrastinated this list so long that there is no possible way I can complete 30 things before the big day rolls around. Hence my much less poetic "5" things before 30 list below. From today, I have 2 months and 1 week to complete these items. If I don't complete them, maybe I can postpone the inevitable??

1. Learn to use chopsticks. (I never said these items would be ground breaking....)

(I am now struggling with keeping this list from turning into a generic "to-do" list...should I add "paint the rocking chair I found at a garage sale"? "Sew some napkins"? "Bake and eat an entire chocolate cake in one sitting?" Or are those just things that go on a regular weekend list to do? Maybe I should research some of these "30 before 30" lists. Be right back).

2. Sew a quilt for Lincoln's bed.

3. Find a local place to volunteer once a week.

4. Incorporate meditation into my daily routine.

5. Make homemade gelato.

I think I am happy with this list. Now to learn how to make a quilt and find some chopsticks...

And now.....cute baby!

  1. Lincoln's looking more like a little man than a baby in this photo! It's totally cliche to say "they grow up so fast", I know, but I understand now why people say it so much. Still as adorable as ever though! Good luck with your list - I have about 13 months before I hit the 30 milestone, but I'm sure it'll be here before I know it.

  2. The thing about women in their 30's is they know what they want, who they are, and aren't going to tolerate anything different. Hearing that made me look forward to turning 30! I can't help you with the other items on your list but my SIL has a food blog and recently posted a Gelato Recipe =) Here ya go http://bakingfortheboys.blogspot.com/2010/06/strawberry-gelato.html

  3. Get yourself over to pei wei they have chopsticks and a little plastic piece you clip onto the top to help you out, it is totally not cheating;) I have been not been practicing since we moved to NC but while in TX I successfully meditated everyday, I used a timer and started with just 5 minutes before bed. I eventually got up to 15 but I think the timer and the short time made it actually possible to do without making excuses.

and don't worry even when you are 30 the delivery guy will still ask to speak with your mom.

  4. Sarah, thanks for the gelato recipe! Hope to make it soon!

Sam-I've been using your tip for timing the meditation in short blocks and have done it 3 days in a row now :) Thanks for the suggestion!
