Lincoln and I headed out for an afternoon of berry pickin' yesterday. The weather was gorgeous (minus the wind; I can always count on dust in the eye when it is windy. Yesterday was no exception...), the fields were full of berries, and Lincoln had a blast! We filled 2 buckets worth of berries. Lincoln rode on my back in the Beco for awhile, so that we could be sure to get a few whole berries instead of part-smushed ones, but when he did get down he was soooo excited about the strawberries. He would try so hard to pick one and then end up smushing it in his hands. But, I'm proud to say, he finally got the hand of it and picked 2 all by himself : ) He also enjoyed taking the berries OUT of the buckets, as well as moving them back and forth between the buckets. Endless fun, I tell you!
Some pictures, and 2 cute videos, from our trip (note: all were taken with my phone, so please excuse the quality...forgot to bring my camera!):
Sorting berries.
He would pick up a berry, hold it up, and say "ooooo!"
"oooo!"
Strawberry!
If anyone has ideas for recipes involving strawberries, please let me know!
I am impressed he didn't try to eat all of them. Looks like great fun. Since Lincoln is such a fan of jello, why not make him a strawberry jello with mashed up strawberries and mashed up bananas in it. Mom/Grandma
Kelly, that looks so fun! I wish we lived closer so that we could participate in your adventures :).
Here is a link to my favorite recipe website (with strawberries already searched). I must say that Grand Oranges and Strawberries, Strawberry Port Jam, Herbed Romaine Salad with Strawberries, Strawberry Buttermilk Sherbet, Spinach-and-Strawberry Salad with Tart Poppy Seed Dressing all look delicious.
Oh yummy! Send some of those gorgeous berries my way please! It is hard to believe that there are places that can pick berries in April but I guess they have to get to my grocery store somehow. :) Looks like a wonderful day.
I would love to take Hal berry picking, but there are no "pick them yourself" places within a few hours. They stopped doing it around here for insurance purposes. LAME.

ReplyDeleteMy goodness that looks like fun. I'm going to have to find out if there are any farms I can take Lily to in our area.
ReplyDeleteLincoln is so cute in the videos and I can't believe how big he's getting.
Oh his cuteness KILLS me! I am loving his hair.
